چکیده

Case evaluation A 12-lead baseline electrocardiogram at admission showed sinus rhythm without signs of ischemia. There were no abnormal findings on physical examination. Biochemical blood evaluation showed no abnormalities. An echocardiogram revealed a normal morphology and function of the heart. Holter monitoring revealed bouts of regular supraventricular tachycardia while eating, with a maximal duration of 4 seconds and a ventricular response r210 beats per minute (bpm) (Figure 1). We filmed such an episode (Supplemental Video available online; Video stills 1 and 2). Clearly, runs of narrow complex tachycardia arise in short salvos during the swallowing phase. In between swallows, the heart converts to normal sinus rhythm. At the end of the recording, the tachycardia is characterized by aberrant conduction.

Use of intravenous sotalol in newborns with supraventricular tachycardia

Introduction Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) in the newborn population is a common arrhythmia that can at times be difficult to treat, with long-standing persistent SVT resulting in tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy. Certain arrhythmic substrates, like ectopic atrial tachycardia (EAT), can be refractory to commonly used antiarrhythmics and may not be responsive to cardioversion. It is there...

Ectopic atrial tachycardia in children.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Ectopic atrial tachycardia (EAT) is an unusual and potentially risky arrhythmia that can result in left ventricular dysfunction if not properly managed. In adults, EAT is mainly caused by diseased atrial myocardium and responds poorly to antiarrhythmic drugs. The characteristics of EAT in children might be different from those in adults because of their immature myocardiu...

1138 Transcatheter Ablation of Ectopic Atrial Tachycardia in Young Patients Using Radiofrequency Current

Background. Ectopic atrial tachycardia (EAT) is a reversible cause of cardiomyopathy but may be quite difficult to control with conventional therapy. Transcatheter ablation with radiofrequency current was tested as an alternative to medical or surgical treatment of this condition. Methods and Results. Twelve young patients (aged 10 months to 19 years) with drug-resistant EAT were treated with d...

A Case Report of Neonatal Atrial Flutter with Poor Feeding and Tachypnea

Background: Arrhythmias in neonates are not common and usually affect newborns with a normal heart or those that suffer from structural heart disease. A malignant type of arrhythmias is supraventricular tachycardia. Meanwhile, one uncommon type of supraventricular arrhythmias is atrial flutter (AFL), which is founded upon reentry mechanisms in the atrium. The AFL may result in heart failure or ...
